Hajime Isayama is a Japanese Manga artist. He was born on August 29, 1986, and raised in Hita Oita, Japan. He began his manga career during high school and started off by going to competitions to submit his mangas. After graduating, he took the manga design program in his college's art department.
For the Magazine Grand Prix in 2006, a short version of one of his works, Attack On Titan, won the "Fine Works" award. Kisayama soon moved to Tokyo to continue pursuing his dream of manga artist. At first, he had wanted to get his work posted in the Weekly Shonen Jump. But the department wanted him to modify his story to make it more suitable for the magazine. He didn't want to, so Isayama declined, and instead took his manga to Weekly Shonen Magazine to apply for the 80th weekly.
Heart Break One was given the "Special Encouragement" award in 2008, and his other work, Orz, got nominated the following year. He started in the monthly Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine for his first work that also got an award, Attack On Titan, in 2009. In 2011 it won in the Shonen category for the 35th Kodansha Manga Award and was nominated for the 4th annual Manga Taishō award and the 16th annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
In resort Bungo Oyama Hibiki no Sato in Oyama's hometown ran a free exhibit displaying copies of Isayama's manuscripts for the manga in 2013. In Hita on November 1, 2014, a special Attack on Titan event was held with Isayama. The following day, at the Patria Hita cultural hall he gave a speech. In December 2018, Isayama announced in his blog that he had gotten married.
